Spring has gone a perfect 10-0 against Dekaney recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lions will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Spring knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Dekaney likes a good challenge.
Spring gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over MacArthur. Considering the Lions have won ten matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Spring got a great performance from Mikayla Zepeda as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Zepeda has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Keona Jackson was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Hailey Jones-Calais, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Spring kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.
Dekaney had taken Eisenhower down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Wildcats came up short against the Eagles, falling 19-3.
Takiara Blanton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Zoe Trevi?o was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Spring's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-8. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Dekaney, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Spring has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .533. However, it's not like Dekaney struggles in that department as they've averaged .587. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Spring's way against Dekaney in their previous matchup back in March, as Spring made off with a 21-0 victory. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
