Baseball Recap: Homer Wins Going Away Against Vandercook Lake

Homer got themselves on the board against Vandercook Lake on Thursday, but Vandercook Lake never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Jayhawks with a sharp 12-0 victory. That's two games straight that the Trojans have won by exactly 12 runs.

Zak Smith made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Smith was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Brock Butler and Isaiah Sullivan did most of the damage at the plate: Butler got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Sullivan went 1-for-2 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Xander Dubois, who earned one RBI, two runs, and four stolen bases.

The win made it two in a row for Homer and bumps their season record up to 2-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Vandercook Lake, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Homer will welcome Napoleon at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Vandercook Lake, they will host Morenci at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Bulldogs have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
