Skyline hasn't had much luck against Mountain View recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Coyotes will be playing at home against the Toros at 3:45 p.m. Skyline has given up an average of 12.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Skyline managed to slip by Westwood the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Coyotes lost 19-4 to the Warriors on Tuesday.
Skyline saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyleigh Beckett, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. Lilly Leon-Valenzuela was another, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Mountain View hadn't done well against Red Mountain recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Toros narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Mountain Lions 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Toros have posted since March 7th.
Daniella Gloria spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Allison Robles and Kylynn Sylvester did most of the damage at the plate: Robles went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Sylvester went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadlie Goodman, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Mountain View hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 10-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Mountain View has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Skyline, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Skyline has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Skyline might still be hurting after the 16-1 loss they got from Mountain View in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Coyotes have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
