The Plattsmouth Blue Devils are taking a road trip to square off against the Arlington Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Plattsmouth is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Plattsmouth had taken Auburn down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Blue Devils fell 4-1 to the Bulldogs.
Derek Nanke was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits.
At the plate, Tripp Fitzpatrick was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Chance Jackson, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Arlington, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Thurston-Cuming County on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since March 31, 2025.
Wes Monke looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jack Morgan was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Marfisi, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Arlington's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Plattsmouth, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Plattsmouth has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Arlington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Plattsmouth's way against Arlington in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Plattsmouth made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
