The Poplar Indians's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Culbertson Cowboys at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Culbertson took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Poplar, who comes in off a win.
Even though Poplar has not done well against Wolf Point recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Poplar walked away with a 61-53 victory over Wolf Point. Given Poplar's advantage in MaxPreps' Montana basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Wolf Point is ranked 104th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Culbertson suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2023 on Saturday. They were dealt a 67-32 defeat at the hands of Plentywood. Culbertson has struggled against Plentywood recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
The losing side was boosted by Gavin Deen, who scored 11 points.
Poplar has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Culbertson, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-7.
Everything came up roses for Poplar against Culbertson when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 76-37 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Poplar since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
