The Clarksville Academy Cougars were the 52-46 winner over the Goodpasture Christian Cougars when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Clarksville Academy was the victim of a tough 56-33 defeat at the hands of Goodpasture Christian on Friday. Clarksville Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-12.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Layla Clark, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Sicily Robinson, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Clarksville Academy has fallen quite a ways from their 23-8 record last season and are now at 3-6. As for Goodpasture Christian, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clarksville Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Clarksville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clarksville is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Goodpasture Christian will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Antioch on December 29th. Antioch's defense has only allowed 26.2 points per game this season, so Goodpasture Christian's offense will have their work cut out for Goodpasture Christian.
