Basalt hasn't had much luck against Delta recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Longhorns will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 1:00 p.m. Basalt has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Coal Ridge hit Basalt with a five-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Longhorns came up short against the Titans, falling 12-1.
Meanwhile, Delta fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Rifle on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bears by a score of 9-8.
Alex Mack put in work while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other pitching news, Gage Lehrman got Delta off to a strong start despite the final result, striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Lehrman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Gavyn Gibson stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jhett Ryan, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Delta's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Basalt, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Basalt hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like Delta struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Basalt suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Delta in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Will the Longhorns have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
