The Carrboro Jaguars will take on the Riverside-Durham Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Carrboro has given up an average of 11.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Carrboro's offense. They came up short against Cedar Ridge on Tuesday, falling 16-0. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Jaguars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Riverside-Durham). Everything went their way against Southern School of Energy and Sustainability on Thursday as they made off with a 20-3 victory. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Paisley Russell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2025. Catherine Clark was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Riverside-Durham was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .591. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Riverside-Durham now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Carrboro, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Carrboro has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Riverside-Durham struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Carrboro suffered a grim 15-3 defeat to Riverside-Durham in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
