The Hobbs Eagles fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Hope Christian Huskies on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Huskies 77-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Friday (70), Hobbs still had to take the loss.
Hobbs' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jairus Turrubiates, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Malakhi David who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Turrubiates has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Abraham Pe?a, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Hobbs bumped their record down to 5-11 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Hope Christian, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hobbs will take on Las Cruces at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Las Cruces is ranked 29th, while Hobbs is ranked 36th). As for Hope Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Grants at 7:00 p.m. Grants knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 matches -- so hopefully Hope Christian likes a good challenge.
