The Jac-Cen-Del Eagles will square off against the South Ripley Raiders at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Jac-Cen-Del is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Jac-Cen-Del needed a bit of extra time to put away Southwestern. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Rebels, sneaking past 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted against the Rebels since May 7, 2021.
Blake Wagner was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Ripley). They were the clear victors by a 23-6 margin over South Decatur on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Raiders needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Gabe Stone was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Trenton Smith, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
South Ripley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Decatur struck out nine times.
The victory made it two in a row for Jac-Cen-Del and bumps their season record up to 8-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for South Ripley, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Jac-Cen-Del has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like South Ripley struggles in that department as they've averaged .476. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
