The Somerset Briar Jumpers had to endure a 12-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-45 win over Bluegrass United on Saturday. Somerset's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Despite the loss, Bluegrass United still got an impressive performance from Grace Hanlon, who scored 22 points along with four steals. Hanlon scored a full 48.9% of Bluegrass United's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie McGuire, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Somerset's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 1-10. As for Bluegrass United, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Somerset and Rockcastle County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Rockcastle County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 games -- so hopefully Somerset likes a good challenge. Bluegrass United's road trip will continue as they head out to face Harrison County at 7:30 p.m. on January 8th.
