Camarillo and Royal are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2023, but likely not for long. The Scorpions will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Highlanders at 3:30 p.m. The last six games Camarillo has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Camarillo fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Crespi on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 2-1 to the Celts, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Camarillo got a good showing from Adrian Ramirez, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ramirez has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Camarillo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zackary Martinez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Martinez has snagged this season.
Meanwhile, Royal entered their tilt with Moorpark on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They came out on top against the Musketeers by a score of 5-1.
Dustin Dunwoody got the start for Royal and what a start it was: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over 6.2 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Noah Vasquez and Matthew Stout did most of the damage at the plate: Vasquez went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Stout went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits Vasquez has posted since back in April of 2025.
Royal was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Camarillo has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Royal, their victory bumped their record up to 16-2.
Camarillo might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Royal when the teams last played back in March. Will the Scorpions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
