The Shawnee Mission Christian Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 30-23 hit to the loss column at the hands of First Baptist. While losing is never fun, Shawnee Mission Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 275th in Kansas, while First Baptist is ranked 90th in Minnesota).
Despite the loss, Shawnee Mission Christian still got an impressive performance from Emily Kleczka, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
First Baptist found their leader in underclassman Lydia Wynja, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Wynja is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada McKinney, who scored two points along with five steals and two blocks.
Shawnee Mission Christian has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for First Baptist, their win bumped their record up to 10-5.
Shawnee Mission Christian will head out on the road to square off against Tournament Opponent at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Tournament Opponent is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. As for First Baptist, they will take on Omaha Warriors at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
