The San Diego Academy Cavaliers will head out on the road to square off against the Mountain Empire Redhawks at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, San Diego Academy didn't have too much trouble with King-Chavez Community at home as they won 44-29. The victory made it back-to-back wins for San Diego Academy.
San Diego Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Rudy Nieto out in front who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Love, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mountain Empire entered their tilt with King-Chavez Community with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Mountain Empire breezed by King-Chavez Community at home to the tune of 54-13 on Thursday. Mountain Empire pushed the score to 42-12 by the end of the third, a deficit King-Chavez Community had little chance of recovering from.
Mountain Empire's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Corey Vann, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine steals. Vann is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Andrew Sepulveda was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
The win got San Diego Academy back to even at 8-8. As for Mountain Empire, they pushed their record up to 15-6 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
San Diego Academy came up short against Mountain Empire when the teams last played back in January, falling 43-33. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sepulveda, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds.
