The Jay Mustangs pushed their score all the way to 70 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 77-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sotomayor. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (69), Jay still had to take the loss.
Jay lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jarrius Jackson jr, who scored 23 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Baldwin, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Jay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sotomayor only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Sotomayor got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jasiah Saunders out in front who scored 23 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Saunders has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Latrell Hoover was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with six rebounds.
Jay's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-7. As for Sotomayor, the win got them back to even at 14-14.
Jay will head out on the road to challenge Holmes at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Holmes is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home. Sotomayor will take on Harlan at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Harlan presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sotomayor in Texas (Harlan is ranked 104th, while Sotomayor is ranked 348th).
