The South Summit Wildcats will head out to square off against the Morgan Trojans at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Wednesday, South Summit made easy work of Millard and carried off an 11-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won nine in a row.
Toshlyn Louder spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mariah Bowen, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Brinley Stapleton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
South Summit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are 9-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Morgan got themselves on the board against Ben Lomond on Tuesday, but Ben Lomond never followed suit. They blew past the Scots 17-0. Winning may never get old, but the Trojans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Callie Averett made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Joesi Kelly was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kiernee Carter, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
South Summit's record is now 13-11. As for Morgan, their record now sits at 13-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. South Summit hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Morgan struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
South Summit might still be hurting after the 24-11 loss they got from Morgan in their previous meeting on April 8th. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
