WASHINGTON, D.C. - Special teams carried
McKinley Tech (Washington, D.C.) to a 62-28 victory over Eastern (Washington, D.C.) on Saturday as the return units contributed two touchdowns. The special teams of the Trainers scored on two kick returns.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Jacque Grooms in the first quarter, McKinley Tech was up 54-10 at the half.
MT expanded its lead to 58 points entering the fourth quarter. The Trainers scored three times in the third, including once on a
De'Markco Moorer touchdown run.
A 44-point first quarter helped McKinley Tech secure the big victory. MT scored on a touchdown run by Grooms, a kick return touchdown by
Shaquante Simms, a touchdown pass by
Kenneth Matthews to
Zack Denney, an
Anthony Carthen touchdown run and a kick return touchdown by Simms in the quarter.
McKinley Tech's standout player in the win was Matthews. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
The loss comes after Eastern defeated Cardozo 34-0 last week.
