The Garfield Bulldogs will take on the Marshall Barristers at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Garfield will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Last Saturday, Garfield earned a 6-1 victory over Marquez.
Nadia Carrillo made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run.
In other batting news, Madilyn Mu?oz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Marshall made sure to put some runs up on the board against Wilson on Wednesday. The Barristers came out on top against the Mules by a score of 15-11. Considering the Barristers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
The team relied heavily on Elaine Reynoso, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Shyanne Velis was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Garfield's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Marshall, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-7.
Marshall's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Garfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Marshall, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Garfield keep running through batters, or will the Barristers buck the trend?
Garfield took their victory against Marshall in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 17-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
