Destin hasn't had much luck against Freeport recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Sharks will welcome the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Destin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Friday just wasn't the day for Destin's offense. They came up short against Holmes County on Friday, falling 12-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Sharks' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Freeport made easy work of Central on Wednesday and carried off a 19-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now won four in a row.
Kaylee Carroll was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Freeport got a massive performance out of Annsleigh Withey, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Withey has posted since back in March. Kayla Stephens was another key player, going 4-for-6 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Freeport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Destin's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Freeport, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Freeport's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Destin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Freeport, though, as they've been averaging only 2.9 strikeouts. Will Destin keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
