The Austintown-Fitch Falcons suffered their closest loss since December 30, 2023 on Tuesday. They fell just short of GlenOak by a score of 53-50. Austintown-Fitch has struggled against GlenOak recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Austintown-Fitch still got an impressive performance from Marcel Finkley, who scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Finkley has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Deshawn Vaughn, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Austintown-Fitch struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as GlenOak pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Ja'Corey Lipkins was his usual excellent self, scoring 31 points along with eight rebounds for GlenOak. Lipkins has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 15 times he's played. Reese Zerger was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Austintown-Fitch's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7. As for GlenOak, their win bumped their record up to 13-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Austintown-Fitch will face off against Harding at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Austintown-Fitch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday. As for GlenOak, they will head out on the road to square off against Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. GlenOak is facing Lake at the right time seeing as Lake is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
