Norman North (Norman, Okla.) junior
Jeremiah Johnson continued his remarkable comeback season Tuesday, scoring 29 of his high game-high 32 points in the second half of a 63-62 win over Mustang. The performance came on the one-year anniversary of him being shot at an abandoned office building near an Oklahoma City shopping mall.
The talented, four-star guard sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the
shooting and brawl among at least 25 youths, but he had two bullets removed that night in a hospital emergency room.
Johnson and his family promised he would come back stronger from the injuries and he has from the start. In his first high school competition since the shooting — he played his first two seasons at Putnam City North — Johnson had 30 points, six rebounds and five assists during a November scrimmage.
Regarded as the No. 38 prospect in the Class of 2023 by
247Sports and No. 1 in Oklahoma, Johnson has averaged well over 20 points per game this season for the 10-3 Timberwolves.
Tuesday's performance was moving considering the anniversary of what could have been a fatal outcome.
After a very slow first half — his team trailed by as many as 15 points — Johnson caught fire in the third quarter with 14 points. He took over down the stretch, scoring the game-winning basket on a tough drive to the hoop with less than 10 seconds to play.
According to 247Sports, he has seven college offers: Arkansas (where he visited last weekend), Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech and Tulsa.
Norman North's next scheduled game is Friday at Moore. See Johnson in action above.
