Youngker is 8-1 against Desert Edge since August of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Roughriders will be playing at home against the Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. Youngker is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
On Thursday, Youngker came up short against Buckeye and fell 3-1. While the Roughriders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Hawks 25-17 in the first set.
Youngker started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 26-24, 25-9, 25-14.
Despite their defeat, Youngker saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Isabella Fernandez, who had 18 digs, was perhaps the best of all.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Desert Edge, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They won by a set and slipped past Paradise Valley 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Scorpions in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.
Desert Edge was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-23, 15-10.
Desert Edge now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Youngker, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
Youngker might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Desert Edge when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Roughriders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
