The Wakeland Wolverines will challenge the Lone Star Rangers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wakeland's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Lone Star's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Wakeland's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top against Creekview by a score of 5-0. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lone Star). They blew past Turner 13-0 on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Ross Norman made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Ryan Hansberger tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.
Back at the plate, Chase Lanham was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. Sean Galbraith was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base.
Wakeland pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lone Star, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-15.
Wakeland couldn't quite finish off Lone Star in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can Wakeland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
