The San Marcos Rattlers will look to defend their home court on Friday against the East Central Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
San Marcos pushed their score all the way to 68 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 75-68 to New Braunfels. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Friday (64), San Marcos still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Zyair Jolivette, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Donavan Riddick was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds.
East Central suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Clemens, falling 77-42. It was the first time this season that East Central let down their fans at home.
Jacob Stewart put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 19 points along with three steals. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Christian Derma, who scored eight points along with three steals.
East Central struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
San Marcos has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 20-9 record this season. As for East Central, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-8.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: San Marcos have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 45.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like East Central struggles in that department as they've made 41.7% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
San Marcos strolled past East Central when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 75-61. Does San Marcos have another victory up their sleeve, or will East Central turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
