Basketball Recap: Grand Island Drops Season-High Score on Omaha South

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grand Island). They secured a 61-56 W over the Omaha South Packers on Saturday. The Islanders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Packers, too.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grand Island to victory, but perhaps none more so than Victor Fisher Jr, who went 9 for 15 on his way to 24 points and six rebounds. Fisher Jr is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Babur Choul was another key player, putting up 18 points and three steals.

Loss or not, Omaha South got some senior leadership from Lou Hodoly and Mar Cantu. Hodoly went 8 of 14 on his way to 20 points and six rebounds, while Cantu posted 11 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zakaih Miller, who had six points.

Grand Island moved to 3-7 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Omaha South, they dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Grand Island didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 65-55 win against Fremont on the 10th. As for Omaha South, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 84-54 loss against Omaha Central on the 7th.
