The Columbus Blue Devils''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They were dealt a 46-7 loss at the hands of Crisp County. While losing is never fun, Columbus can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 380th, while Crisp County is ranked 134th).
Crisp County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hagan Slimp out in front who threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Deshaun Fedd, who picked up 148 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Columbus' loss was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 Mary Persons and 6-2 Manchester (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.8% over those games). As for Crisp County, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Columbus will head out on the road to face off against Monroe at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Crisp County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Thomasville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Thomasville is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
