Howells-Dodge has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Lutheran-Northeast Eagles on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Howells-Dodge is ranked 61st, while Lutheran-Northeast is ranked 64th).
Howells-Dodge fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Pender on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 38-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pendragons. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Howells-Dodge has scored all season.
After soaring to a 24-point win in their last game, Lutheran-Northeast came back down to earth on Friday. They fell just short of Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] by a score of 49-46.
The losing side was boosted by Josh Rojas, who scored 17 points. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Braden Feddern, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Lutheran-Northeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Howells-Dodge's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-4. Lutheran-Northeast's record is now 17-4.
Howells-Dodge and Lutheran-Northeast were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but Howells-Dodge came up empty-handed after a 38-37 loss. Can Howells-Dodge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
