This season hasn't been kind to The Hughes Springs Mustangs, who are still winless after their eighth contest. They suffered a rough 26-0 loss at the hands of Elysian Fields on Friday. Hughes Springs was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Elysian Fields apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Among those leading the charge was Dez Harrison, who rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Another player making a difference was Dravian Rather, who rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
Hughes Springs' loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Garrison and 6-1 Jefferson (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 70.7% over those games). As for Elysian Fields, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-7.
Hughes Springs will face off against Queen City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Queen City is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Elysian Fields, they will be playing in front of their home fans against New Diana at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
