Baseball Recap: Converse Comes Up Short

On Tuesday, the Converse Wildcats came up short against the Joaquin Rams and fell 5-2.

Mavrick Mitchell put in work while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases. He is becoming a predictor of Converse's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 1-4 when he doesn't).

Mitchell wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Durr, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double. Durr has become a key player for Converse: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-4 otherwise.

Converse dropped their record down to 3-5 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Joaquin, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Coming up, Converse will be playing in front of their home fans against Leesville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Leesville knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Converse likes a good challenge. As for Joaquin, they will take on Martinsville in a tournament on Thursday.
