After flying high against the Gaither Cowboys last Wednesday, the Hillsborough Terriers came back down to earth. Hillsborough fell just short of Armwood by a score of 53-50. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Hillsborough has suffered yet this season.
Several Terriers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Deana Epps, who scored 18 points along with five assists and two steals. Jojo Cruz-Smartt was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Armwood was led to victory by Mya Ankers and Na'Chauncia Welch. Ankers scored 18 points along with two steals and two blocks, while Welch scored 17 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Ankers posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Jada Mathurin, who scored four points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Hillsborough's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Armwood, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hillsborough will challenge Alonso at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alonso will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 488th, while Hillsborough is ranked 212th). Armwood on the road again on Tuesday and play against East Bay at 6:30 p.m. on January 16th.
