The Shelby Golden Lions suffered their biggest loss since December 21, 2023 on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 72-41 loss at the hands of Thomas Jefferson. Shelby was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-18.
Shelby lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jamiah Hopper, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Nakia Blake, who scored eight points.
Leading Thomas Jefferson to victory were Samara Jones and Brooklyn Twitty. Jones scored 19 points along with six steals, while Twitty dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Twitty has scored all season. Julissa Bell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Shelby has fallen quite a ways from their 26-2 record last season and are now at 5-10. As for Thomas Jefferson, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shelby will take on Burns at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Burns is ranked 412th, while Shelby is ranked 393rd). As for Thomas Jefferson, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Highland Tech at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
