Atrisco Heritage Academy hasn't had much luck against Volcano Vista recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars will challenge the Volcano Vista Hawks at 3:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
While Jaguars fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Saturday's season opener. They walked away with a 17-12 victory over Manzano on Saturday.
Carlos Armijo was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Samuel Gonzalez and Ignacio Quintana did most of the damage at the plate: Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Quintana scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5. The dominant performance also gave Quintana a new career-high in hits (two). Fabian Escobedo was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-6.
Atrisco Heritage Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They hit six more hits than Manzano's also-impressive total of 11.
Meanwhile, Volcano Vista got themselves on the board against West Mesa on Thursday, but West Mesa never followed suit. They were the clear victor by a 12-0 margin over the Mustangs. The win continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won nine in a row.
Thayer Nitz looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Volcano Vista let Andres Holguin and Josiah Gutierrez run wild. Holguin went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Gutierrez scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Aziah Gonzales, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Atrisco Heritage Academy might still be hurting after the 14-4 loss they got from Volcano Vista in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Atrisco Heritage Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
