North Mac and Staunton are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Panthers will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. North Mac is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, North Mac was able to grind out a solid victory over Southwestern, taking the game 5-2.
Cade McCready spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits.
At the plate, Quinn Morrow and Andrew Scroggins did most of the damage at the plate: Morrow scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Scroggins went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Morrow a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Clark Sanson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Staunton got the win against Hillsboro on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-2. Considering the Bulldogs have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Staunton also got a great performance from Braylen Brown as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Reese Bohlen was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Staunton is 3-1 when Bohlen posts two or more runs, but 4-5-1 otherwise. Zander Machota was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Staunton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Staunton now has a winning record of 7-6-1. As for North Mac, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.
North Mac's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Panthers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Staunton, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will North Mac continue to outrun the ball?
North Mac skirted past Staunton 8-6 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
