It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 55-12 victory over Farmville Central. The win was familiar territory for SouthWest Edgecombe who now have eight in a row.
Leading SouthWest Edgecombe to victory were Jalen Willoughby and Tyson Ayers. Willoughby rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry, while Ayers rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Ayers was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 65 yards.
Despite the loss, Farmville Central still got an impressive performance from Cameron Sessoms, who picked up 117 receiving yards and a touchdown.
SouthWest Edgecombe's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.8 points per game. As for Farmville Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
SouthWest Edgecombe will play host again and welcome Whiteville, where kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Whiteville is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Farmville Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
