The D'Evelyn Jaguars will head out to face off against the Conifer Lobos at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. D'Evelyn is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when D'Evelyn challenged Pomona on Thursday. The Jaguars won by a run and slipped past the Panthers 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Jaguars have posted since May 8, 2024.
D'Evelyn got a great performance from Darian Valdez-Berriel as he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, D'Evelyn saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leo Vigil, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Jack Meiser was another, earning two runs and two stolen bases.
D'Evelyn hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Conifer ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Green Mountain 9-7. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 26, 2022, but that streak is no more.
Luke Adams made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dillon Tracy, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Murphy, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Conifer pushed their record up to 7-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for D'Evelyn, their record is now 5-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. D'Evelyn has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Conifer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
D'Evelyn couldn't quite finish off Conifer when the teams last played last Wednesday and fell 8-6. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
