Kylie Jones was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Mariner has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging 3.86 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They fell 10-6 to Fort Myers. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 27, 2022, but that streak is no more.
Gabi Winters was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Morgan Tucker and Mia Standard did some serious damage despite the final result: Tucker scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4, while Standard scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Tucker has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
Even though they lost, Mariner kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matches.
Mariner's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Lemon Bay, their record is now 2-4.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Lemon Bay has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Mariner struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
