The Stillwater Pioneers had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 59-0 win over Putnam City West at home. The result was nothing new for Stillwater, who have now won four matchups by 22 points or more so far this season.
Stillwater's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chance Acord led the charge by throwing for 240 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Acord was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards. Holden Thompson was another key contributor, gaining 152 total yards and two touchdowns.
Stillwater's win was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 6-2. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 40 points. As for Putnam City West, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stillwater will take on Tahlequah at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Putnam City West, they will be playing at home against Grant at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Grant comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
