The Taft Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Whitney Young Dolphins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
Taft fell victim to Lincoln-Way East's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 55-0 loss at the hands of the Griffins. While losing is never fun, Taft can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 206th, while Lincoln-Way East is ranked fourth).
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Whitney Young's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were beaten by Wheaton North 34-0. Whitney Young was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Taft has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Whitney Young, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
Taft suffered a grim 30-6 defeat to Whitney Young in their previous matchup back in October. Can Taft avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
