The Colbert Heights Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Mars Hill Bible Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Colbert Heights' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Mars Hill Bible's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Colbert Heights fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Florence on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 3-2.
Addison Holcomb spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.
At the plate, Colbert Heights saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was McKenzie Gann, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Mars Hill Bible made sure to put some runs up on the board against Sheffield on Monday. The Panthers blew past the Bulldogs 17-2. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Lila Embry, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Stegall, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Mars Hill Bible pushed their record up to 25-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.3 runs over those games. As for Colbert Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-5.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Colbert Heights hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Mars Hill Bible struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Colbert Heights might still be hurting after the 12-5 loss they got from Mars Hill Bible when the teams last played back in March. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
