The third road game was the charm for the Clayton Comets, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with a 63-54 victory over Cardinal Gibbons on Saturday. For Clayton, this counts as revenge for the 88-74 defeat Cardinal Gibbons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Justice Mitchell was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. The matchup was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. Jeremiah Henson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Clayton's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Cardinal Gibbons, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-2.
Clayton will be home for the holidays to greet South Garner at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. South Garner presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Clayton in North Carolina (South Garner is ranked 34th, while Clayton is ranked 198th). Cardinal Gibbons will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Northside Christian Academy at 12:00 p.m. on December 28th.
