Vanden has gone a perfect 10-0 against Wood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Vanden Vikings will look to defend their home field against the Wood Wildcats at 4:00 p.m.
The home team had come away the winner the last three times Vanden and Vacaville had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Vanden lost 11-5 to Vacaville on Wednesday.
Amiya Clay and Niayli Calvo did some serious damage despite the final result: Clay scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Calvo got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mia Cueva, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They walked away with a 9-5 win over River City on Wednesday. While the Wildcats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Madisyn Farnham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Karly Sampson was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Aubrey Redline was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Wood hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in seven consecutive games.
Wood pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.3 runs. As for Vanden, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Vanden took their win against Wood in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. Does Vanden have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
