Sandia is 8-2 against the Mustangs since December of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Sandia Matadors will be playing in front of their home fans against the West Mesa Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Sandia's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 17 games.
Sandia scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They claimed a resounding 97-45 win over Piedra Vista at home. That looming 97-45 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Sandia yet this season.
Jahmil Crayton Johnson had an outrageously good game as he went 7 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Brown, who scored 11 points along with six assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, West Mesa faced the Golden Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. West Mesa secured a 72-66 W over the Golden Eagles on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but West Mesa sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Sandia pushed their record up to 13-7 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.0 points per game. As for West Mesa, their win bumped their record up to 13-6.
Everything went Sandia's way against the Mustangs in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the Matadors made off with a 65-44 victory. Does Sandia have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
