The Pitman Pride will venture away from home to take on the Lincoln Trojans at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lincoln took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Pitman, who comes in off a win.
Pitman not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12, 2024. They were the clear victor by an 8-2 margin over Atwater. The Pride's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Noah Cervantes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nathan Cervantes, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Ben Vilhauer also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
Meanwhile, Lincoln was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Saint Francis. That's two games in a row now that the Trojans have lost by exactly two runs.
Lincoln saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Ayala, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Lincoln's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Pitman, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
Lincoln's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Pitman has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Lincoln, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Pitman keep running through batters, or will Lincoln buck the trend?
Pitman came out on top in a nail-biter against Lincoln when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pitman since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
