In what's become a running theme this season, the Saugerties Sawyers gave their fans yet another huge victory on Monday. They claimed a resounding 61-30 victory over New Paltz at home. Given Saugerties' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Huguenots are ranked 531st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Saugerties to victory were Helene Kerr and Natalie Tucker. Kerr scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and three steals, while Tucker scored ten points along with three steals. Tucker hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Sammie Graham, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Several Huguenots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cadence O'dell, who scored six points along with five rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that O'dell grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Morales, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Saugerties is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for New Paltz, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-11.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Newburgh Free Academy the next time they take the court. New Paltz will head out to face Newburgh Free Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Saugerties will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
