Nicholas County is 9-1 against Powell County since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Bluejackets will host the Pirates at 6:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with six losses in a row, Nicholas County turned things around against Robertson County on Thursday. They never let the Black Devils get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Bluejackets' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Caroline Banks was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Watkins, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Nicholas County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Powell County and Owsley County had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Pirates blew past the Owls / Lady Owls 18-0 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 12 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Powell County got a massive performance out of Brooklyn Slone, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Emma Rison, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple.
Powell County pushed their record up to 13-12 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Nicholas County, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-20.
Nicholas County took their win against Powell County in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 17-1 score. Will the Bluejackets repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
