Beacon has gone 6-1 against Francis Lewis recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Blue Demons will square off against the Patriots at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Beacon took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Scholars Academy as they made off with a 17-1 victory. The contest marked the Blue Demons' most dominant win of the season.
William Schecter looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Franco Calaf and Jagger Bruch did most of the damage at the plate: Calaf went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Bruch got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run was Calaf's first of the season. Caleb Chou was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Beacon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Scholars Academy only posted an OBP of .474.
Francis Lewis hadn't beaten John Adams on the road since May 2, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Patriots blew past the Spartans 18-7. With that victory, the Patriots brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Michael Alba looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Derek Young was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nathan Pichardo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Francis Lewis is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Beacon, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Beacon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Francis Lewis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Beacon took their win against Francis Lewis in their previous matchup back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 21-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Demons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
