The Wildwood Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They suffered a rough 77-56 loss at the hands of South Sumter. The matchup was a close 31-29 at the break, but unfortunately for Wildwood it sure didn't stay that way.
Despite the defeat, Wildwood saw an underclassman step up: Zayden Garcia went 7 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Garcia has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Devonte Huff, who scored four points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Wildwood has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. As for South Sumter, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.
Wildwood will play host again and welcome St. John Lutheran, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. John Lutheran is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. As for South Sumter, they will head out on the road to take on The Villages Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in The Villages Charter's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine matchups.
