The Lee Generals fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Gate City Blue Devils on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Blue Devils 78-72. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why Lee lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cassidy Hammonds. Despite the final result, she scored 31 points along with five steals. The game was Hammonds' ninth in a row with at least ten points. Savanna Parsons was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Lee has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Gate City, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-5.
Lee will face off against John Battle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. John Battle has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 2. Gate City won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Tennessee at 6:00 p.m. on January 6th. Tennessee is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60.9 points per game.
