Basketball Recap: Glencoe Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

It was a good run, but Glencoe unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against the Pell City Panthers, falling 63-37. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Yellowjackets came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Panthers are ranked 209th).

Glencoe's loss came despite strong showings from Kinlee Montgomery and Alli Jo Amos. Montgomery posted nine points, while Amos put up seven points.

Pell City was led to victory by Zaniya Mitchell and Saniya McFarlin. Mitchell went 7 of 16 on her way to 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds, while McFarlin went 8 of 12 en route to 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Mitchell a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamiriah Hill, who had nine points.

Glencoe's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4. As for Pell City, they pushed their record up to 6-16 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Glencoe will welcome Piedmont at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pell City, they will host Shades Valley at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Shades Valley will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Pell City surely won't give up without a fight.
