The West Islip Lions won the last time they faced the Centereach Cougars, and things went their way on Saturday too. West Islip walked away with a 35-27 win over Centereach. Given West Islip's advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Centereach is ranked 347th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Centereach's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Jason Zaita, who picked up 122 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of TJ Doyle, who threw for 327 yards and two touchdowns.
The victory makes it two in a row for West Islip and bumps their season record up to 8-1. As for Centereach, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
West Islip will be playing in front of their home fans against Centereach at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Centereach focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Saturday. As for they, they will head out on the road to face off against West Islip at 6:00 p.m.
